Driving Poem

The road was clear, the night was dark,
The stars were out in splendour,
The ice of course could not be seen
As he went on his bender.

He missed the sign about the bend,
His mind was just elsewhere,
Instead of being in his head,
It just went everywhere.

A short, blunt and graphic poem, bringing the reality of death and carnage, from something as simple as not concentrating and therefore going too fast for the conditions and road layout.

It has almost become a human right to own a car, and has now become socially unacceptable to suggest that someone can not simply drive as fast as they like to get where they are going. Sticking to the speed limits is generally seen as irritating and boring to say the least.

Speed cameras are seen as just for making money and the police who stop law breaking and generally dangerous drivers are seen as picking on an easy target. Is this stupid attitude ever going to reverse itself? Will responsible drivers ever be seen as the ones who actually are in the right? I do not mean in some sort of a self righteous way, but rather in a responsible honourable way. Maybe, maybe not. But one thing is for sure, that those who have lost a loved one on the roads, whether by a driver who is drunk or just driving irresponsibly to a greater or lesser extent, they will generally see the reality of the situation better than those of us who are just in a rush!
